Turing Fellows are established scholars with proven research excellence in data science, artificial intelligence, or a related field. I will be joining the October 2021 cohort to collaborate on developing data science and AI approaches to identifying and thwarting emerging biological threats. 

I will work with the Nuclear Threat Initiative's Biosecurity Program and the Technical Consortium for DNA Sequence Screening to develop a global screening framework for DNA synthesis orders, to prevent the misuse of regulated pathogen DNA. 

My 2018 published invasiveness index algorithm was used to characterise salmonella collected from bloodstream infections in the DRC, and describe a newly discovered emerging invasive strain.

AI in Schools is a project that lets students investigate and tackle the real-world problem of climate change by investigating energy use at their school, using their own data as well as publicly available large data sets.

I was honored to be awarded joint winner of the Commitment to Public Engagement category in the 2020 Wellcome Genome Campus Connecting Science Public Engagement Awards. 

I will establish an independent research program focussing on computational methods for screening genomic data for emerging high-risk pathogens.

A program set up to allow school children to chat with scientists during COVID-19 lockdown. It also gives students a chance to talk to infectious disease researchers about their COVID concerns.
